Obituary

Patricia J. Thompson affectionately called “Pat” was born on March 26, 1952, to the late Deacon Charlie Lewis Jackson and Sister Ella “Peach” Jackson in Mitchell County, Georgia. She was the fifth child.

She received her early education in Camilla, Georgia attending Camilla Consolidated School and graduated with the Class of 1970. Her classmates loved and adored her. She was a member of the girls’ basketball team, the marching, and concert band, and a cheerleader. She was crowned Ms. Sophomore and Ms. Debutante her senior year. Her education was furthered as she attended Albany State College. She earned a degree in Physical Education and later received her master’s degree of Education and a specialist in Guidance Counseling. 

Her parents instilled in her the importance of education. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Her line name was “Herb” 69 spices of life. 

Pat confessed her belief in Christ at an early age and joined the Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate Reverend L.C. Daniels. She was a faithful member. She served as Sunday School teacher, sung in the Adult Choir, assisted in the Kitchen Ministry, and a member of Women in Action, and the Deaconess board.

She was known for her love of children. She dedicated her life to educating and serving the children of Osceola, Florida, Mitchell County, Georgia, Colquitt County, Georgia. Pat taught in Osceola from 1976 –1978; Mitchell County form 1978 -1999; Colquitt County from 1999 –2012. She loved to dance, travel, watch basketball, westerns, and game show network.

She was joined in holy matrimony to Larry Thompson, Sr. on April 14, 1979.

Patricia suddenly entered eternal rest on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Christen Thompson, sisters, Bonnie Ruth Lawrence, Charlie Mae Jackson, Deedra LaKay Jackson; grandson, Khalil Hardison; sisters-in-law, Emma Thompson, Ella Richardson, Glady Reddrick, Willa Mae Thompson, brothers-in-law, Charles Thompson, Albert Lawrence.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories a devoted, loving husband of 44 years, Larry Thompson, Sr.; two daughters, Daphne Jackson, Columbus, GA, Tanya (Will) Wilson, McDonough, GA; one son, Larry (Natasha) Thompson, Jr., Smyrna, GA; two sisters, Vera Jackson, Seawarren, NJ, Minner Baldwin, Valdosta, GA; one aunt, Bernice Haynes; one sister-in-law, Annette Thompson; three brothers-in-law, Nathaniel Thompson, Queens, NY, Freddie (Bernita) Thompson, Horace Thompson, both of Camilla, GA; nine grandchildren, Ketoria Peterson, Christen Thompson, Sanaa Thompson, Tyana Hardison, Nakia Hardison, Michael Wilson, Gabriel Wilson, Hope Wilson, Faith Wilson; two great grandchildren, Braylen Perry, Kheila Hardison and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
