Vernon Davis

September 26, 1950 — January 1, 2024

Vernon "Peterbo" Davis was born September 26, 1950, to the late Eddie Hugh Davis and Lucile (Daniels) Davis in Cairo Georgia. On Monday, January 1, 2024, with his family nearby, he heard the voice of his Savior extending him an offer to take his eternal rest. He was the second of three born children.

Peterbo, as he was known to his family and friends, was educated in the Grady County School System and was a graduate of Washington Consolidated School.

A protector of his family, he welcomed everyone with open arms, as he was known for his selflessness. Though he may no longer be with us  physically, his spirit, love, and teachings will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and strength that will continue to inspire and guide us in our lives.

In honoring his memory, let us remember him for the remarkable person he was – a loving husband, a devoted father, a cherished friend, and a beacon of light to many. His impact on our lives will never fade, and he will be dearly missed. We find solace in the memories we shared and the lessons he imparted.

Awaiting his triumphant entry into the arms of eternity, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ella Mae Herring Davis, and his caring daughter, Kimberly Chantel Herring Stephens, joining them, along with his mother, father, aunt, and his dearest grandmother, affectionately known as Mama.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted children: Tiera Davis, Thomasville, GA; Philandra James, Thomasville, GA; son-in-law, Daryl Stephens, Thomasville, GA; two loving sisters, Martha (Joe) Thomas, and Elwanda Thomas both of Cairo, Georgia; devoted uncle, Solomon  (Elaine) Daniels, Moultrie, Georgia; grandchildren, Malcolm (Rachel) Miller, Atlanta GA; Philip James, South Carolina; Daria Stephens, Fort Lauderdale, FL; Justin James, Albany, GA; granddaughter, Skylar Miller, Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-law, Annie Herring, Detroit, MI; Betty Williams and Linda Anderson, Thomasville, GA; brothers-in-law, Willie Herring and Randy Herring, Thomasville, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
