Mrs. Vera Smith, age 73, entered eternal rest on May 28, 2026. She was born on January 24, 1953, in Thomas County, Georgia, to the late Robert B. Thomas Sr. and Johnnie Mae McCray Thomas.
Vera was educated in the Thomas County School System and was a proud 1971 graduate of Thomasville High School. Committed to lifelong learning, she furthered her education at Southern Regional Technical College, where she earned a degree in Medical Billing and Coding.
At an early age, Vera accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She was a devoted member of Refuge Temple Church, where she worshiped faithfully and cherished her church family.
Vera was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Lee Smith, affectionately known as “June”; her parents, Robert B. Thomas Sr. and Johnnie Mae McCray Thomas; and all others who welcomed her into eternal glory.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories two loving daughters, LaShonda R. Thomas of Thomasville, Georgia, and Shareeda Hill of Atlanta, Georgia; three cherished grandchildren, Darrien M. Fleno, Dantes M. Hampton, and Emon’ee Arnesha Thomas, all of Thomasville, Georgia.
She is also survived by her devoted siblings: Sally Burke (Albert) of Tallahassee, Florida; Shirley Thompson of Thomasville, Georgia; Isaac Thomas of Las Vegas, Nevada; Gerraldine Terry and Alvin Thomas, both of Thomasville, Georgia; Vivian Johnson (Martin) of Prince George, Virginia; Robert B. Thomas Jr. of Thomasville, Georgia; and Craig McCray of Atlanta, Georgia.
Vera also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and loved ones who will forever treasure her memory and the love she shared throughout her life.
