Evangelist Sylvia Laverne Hall was born on September 25, 1953, in Orlando, Florida, to Mrs. Thelma Gaines Gray and the late Amos Gaines, Sr.
From an early age, Sylvia displayed a deep love for the Lord. She was educated in the Orange County Public School system, attending Washington Shores Elementary School, Carver Junior High School, and Evans High School, all in Orlando, Florida.
On June 20, 1971, Sylvia was united in holy matrimony to her loving and devoted husband, Walter Hall, Sr., who continues to cherish her memory. From this union, they were blessed with three children: Walter Hall, Jr., Shaunta Hall, and Tammy Hall.
In the early 1970s, Sylvia relocated to Barwick, Georgia, where she continued to grow in faith, family, and purpose. During this time, she began planting seeds that would bless countless lives for years to come.
Evangelist Sylvia Laverne Hall was a woman of great faith, grace, and unwavering commitment to the Kingdom of God. Her life was a testament to the power of prayer, the beauty of service, and the strength of a devoted believer. A powerful traveling evangelist, she was saved at a young age and remained a faithful servant of God throughout her life. She loved to praise God and boldly carried His Word wherever she went.
For over 17 years, Sylvia faithfully served as a paraprofessional with the Thomasville Public School District. In this role, she became a guiding light for countless students, offering not only academic support but also encouragement, patience, and genuine care. She had a special gift for meeting children where they were—uplifting them, nurturing their confidence, and inspiring them to believe in themselves. Her impact extended far beyond the classroom, as she built lasting relationships with students, families, and colleagues alike. After years of dedicated service, she retired as her health began to decline, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and commitment that will not be forgotten.
Sylvia was one of twelve siblings. She was preceded in death by her father, Amos Gaines, Sr., and her brothers: Earl Gaines, Amos Gaines, Jr., and Alfred Gaines.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Walter Hall, Sr.; her loving mother, Mrs. Thelma Gaines Gray; and her three children: Walter Hall, Jr. (Denise), Shaunta Hall (Bjorn), and Tammy Hall (Trell).
She is also survived by her siblings: Linda Keyes (Zeke), Peggy Austin (Larry), Gwendolyn Garey (Darrell), Angela McDowell (Marlon), Darrell Gaines (Shirley), Stephen Gaines (Carrie), Antonio Gaines (Gina), and Barbara Gaines (widow of the late Alfred Gaines).
She also leaves to cherish her memory a beloved grandson, Donjuan Hall, whom she lovingly raised as her own, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends whose lives were touched by her love, strength, and unwavering faith.
Through her love, wisdom, and powerful witness, Evangelist Hall impacted not only her family but all who had the privilege of knowing her. We celebrate a life well lived and a legacy that will continue to speak for generations to come.
