Susie Sumner was born October 17, 1930 to the late Mr. Samuel Sumner Sr. and Mrs. Curlie Daniels Sumner in Thomasville, GA. She attended Douglas High School but finished her education at Walton Division of Thomas Area Technical School.

She became a member of The James Hicks American Legion Auxiliary Unit#519 in 1970. Through the years, she served on the Executive Board, Veteran’s Affairs Bi-Laws, Georgia Girls State and Community Service Committees. She served faithfully as the unit’s Sgt-At-Arms until her health failed. She faithfully attended Unit#519 meetings, District 2 meetings and some state conventions. She always assisted in transporting young ladies to the Department of Georgia’s Girls state yearly program in Statesboro, GA. Her spirit will be truly missed by the James Hicks American Legion Auxiliary Unit#519. She was also a member of Kelly Rose Temple#1005.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Samuel Sumner, Sr. and Mrs. Curlie Daniels Sumner; brothers; Robert “Bob” Sumner, Frank Sumner, Clyde Sumner, Samuel “Ted” Sumner, Jr., Ulysses Baker, Sr, Walter Sumner; sisters, Bertha Sumner, Dorothy Anderson, Lindell Sumner, Elizabeth Sumner; children, Terrence (Terry) Sumner, Mark A. Sumner.

Susie departed her life on April 13, 2026.
