Robert Nelson Smith was born on October 2, 1949 in Thomasville, GA to the union of Johnny Eddie and Frankie Mae Smith. Robert attended Douglas High School and graduated 1968. He enlisted into the Air Force June 7, 1970 and was honorably discharged. He continued staying in Maryland for 40 years. He then returned to Thomasville, GA, where he reunited with the love of his life, Louise Hadley Smith and remained together for 20 years. On February 6, 2020, they were joined together in Holy Matrimony by Pastor Hardy Clayton. They continued their life together happily until he transitioned on January 23, 2025. Robert was a member of the Covenant Christian Center. Robert was a man of class, very stylish. He loved to dress to impress. Well groomed with his hat to add to his own daily style. Robert was a great provider and awesome stepfather to his children.
His parents preceded him in death, Johnny Eddie and Frankie Mae Smith; four sisters, Jolene Jones Andrews, Eddie Mae Broadnax, Annie Lois Wilson and Sharon Stacey; one brother, Johnny Smith, Jr.; niece, Patina Wilson and nephew, Roscoe Thomas, II.
His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his devoted wife, Louise Smith, who was his caregiver and took excellent care of him daily; one daughter, Tiffany M. Woodbury of Jonesville, SC; two step daughters, Regina (Jerry) Williams, Latoya (Christopher) Johnson; one stepson, Harry (Michelle) Pittman; grandchildren, Christian R. Pittman, India P. Mays, Jada Mobley, Khalid Coleman, Shemaya Pittman, Harrison Pittman, Christopher Pittman and C. J. West; siblings, Rosetta Falton of Jacksonville, FL, Edward (Cynthia) Smith of Thomasville, GA, Maragaret Smith of Atlanta, GA, Carol (Robert) Samuel of Atlanta, GA, Franklin Smith of Atlanta, GA, Tommy Smith of Valdosta, GA, Tangela Smith of Atlanta, GA, Valerie Smith of Enterprise, AL; sister in law and brother in law, Annie Doris (Willie) Clark; brother in law, John Stacey; and a very special and devoted niece and nephew, Timothy (Charron) Hopkins.He also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and classmates, who will forever cherish his memory.
