Neal Carter, Jr.

January 14, 1952 — November 20, 2023

Elder Neal Carter, Jr. was born on January 14, 1952, to the late Neal Carter, Sr. and Mattie Pearl Carter in Newton, Georgia. He departed this life on November 20, 2023, at Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Neal was married to the love of his life, Martha Sue Metcalf for 51 years. To their union two children were born, Shelonda Carter Berry and Shedrick Carter.

Neal was educated in the Thomas County School System class of 1972. He later received a trade at Walton Technical College in Auto Mechanics.

At an early age, Neal joined Mercy Seat Christian Church. He later became a member of Evergreen Congregational United Church of Christ in Beachton, Georgia, where he served as a Church Elder, Chairman of the Stewardship Board, Chairman of Men's Work, and a member of the choir. He also provided assistance to the Pastor, Congregation, and the community.

Neal, affectionately known as Jr. and Brother, was a man of great character. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and a dear friend.

Neal was employed with Sinkola Farms for 48 years working in the wildlife management and conservation department as well as a professional dog trainer. Neal retired, but soon realized that retirement was not for him. He and his son, Shedrick, started their own business called Box C Hunting Kennel, where they trained English Pointers and Setters, and conducted guided quail hunts.

Neal's passions were hunting, deep sea fishing, entertaining family and friends, cooking, playing baseball, spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His greatest passion was courting Sue!

Neal spent his latter years gracing the cover of many outdoor sporting and gaming magazines, modeling, sportswear for outdoor clothing lines and companies, as well as participating in documentaries to educate individuals about the life of a dogman.

Neal also served the community as a volunteer with the Manna Drop food distribution at a local church. He served as the President of The Georgia Florida Shooting Dog Handlers Club, where he organized many field trials, educated, and mentored upcoming dog handlers.

Neal is survived by his devoted wife, Martha Sue Carter of Thomasville, Georgia; special love ones, Shelonda (Trevor, Sr.) Berry of Covington, Georgia, Shedrick (Keisha) Carter of Stockbridge, Georgia and Allisia Davis of Havana, Florida; grandchildren, Tre'Necia (Anthony) Stanley, Tre'Miyah Berry, Gavrielle Carter, Trevor "TJ" Berry, Talia Williams and Yanis Carter; great grandchildren, Storm, Xola, and Winter Stanley; siblings, Bettye (Jerome, Sr.) Jackson, Robert (Linda) Carter, Sr., John Carter, Sr., Earnestine (Ernest) West, Katie Carter, Annie Faye Gooding, Barnard Carter, Sr., Deborah Carter; aunts, Katherlean Branch, Freddie Anderson and Lottye (James) Atkins; uncles, Lee (Diroslyn) and Charles (Patricia) Anderson; brother in law, Reverend Joseph (Jannie) Daniels, Sr.; sister in laws, Glendell (Freddie) Mills and Betty Metcalf. He also leaves a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William Carter, Sr.
