Mother Helen Clark was born on June 30, 1940, to the late Lizzie Bryant in Thomasville, GA. She attended Greenwood Plantation School. She worked many jobs as a housekeeper, cook, and completed her work career as a Food Service worker at Harper Elementary School (where many children, as adults today, call her "Big Ma").
Mother Helen served many roles at St. James Primitive Baptist Church. She was the Youth Director of the Children's Choir, President of the Gospel Choir, and President of the Mothers' Board for many years. She received the "Drum Major for Justice Award" from St. James Primitive Baptist Church, "Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition" in recognition of outstanding achievement, service, and public distinction presented by Congressman Sanford D. Bishop Jr., and a honoree as one of Thomas County's African American Leaders.
She departed her earthly life on June 8, 2025. She will forever be remembered and deeply missed.
She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, Annette (Benjamin) Meeks of Thomasville, Georgia; son, Amos (Linda) Clark of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, May Lizzie (Ricky) McIntyre of Thomasville, Georgia; sister, Virginia (Alvin) Chance of St. Petersburg, Florida. Her loving grandchildren: Kenyada (Nicky) Meeks, Benjamin (Patricia) Meeks, Candace (Magic) Meeks, all of Thomasville, Georgia, and Danisha (Dasia) Jones of Flowood, Mississippi. Great grandchildren: Keyunna Meeks, Daezha Brooks, DaKarri Meeks, Amir White, and Jakeria Mitchell. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and treasured friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lizzie Bryant; daughter, Lisa Jones; sisters, Margaree Farley and Norma Grant; brothers, Walter McIntrye, Moses McIntyre, Joseph McIntyre, Henry McIntyre, and Nathaniel McIntyre.
