Big Mike was born in Thomasville, Georgia on October 9, 1958, to the late Mary Lou Williams and Tom Lawyer. At the age of ten, Mike's mother passed away at which time Aunt Bessie Parson became his Ma'Dear. As the years passed, Mike began to consider his dear late Uncle James and Aunt Edith Williams as his parents.
Big Mike attended Thomasville City Schools. After leaving school, he learned many customer service skills in Aunt Bessie's Café.
Big Mike found the love of his life, Betty Perkins. They joined in Holy Matrimony on October 25, 2008. This institution was filled with so much love, laughter, and fun. Mike introduced his wife to the dog tracks, and she became his good luck charm. Betty showed Mike how sweet life can be with the Lord as the head of their lives. This is what made their marriage "a match made in heaven."
Big Mike found gratification in spending time with his family while indulging in some good ole' soul food and always sharing his advice about "yo money." His deep and genuine love permeated throughout the entire family.
Big Mike was employed in various jobs. Being a servant leader, Mike tapped into his true calling when he accepted the position as a Caretaker for Well Springs, Incorporated. This job was rewarding and gave him a sense of pride. He could talk for days about everyone that he touched. The clients knew that they could count on him, even on his off days. Mike enjoyed this job so much that he made the comment "I will work here until the day I die," and that is just what he did.
Big Mike's spiritual seed was planted at Gray's Chapel AME Church in Yatesville, Georgia. He later joined Covenant Christian Center in Thomasville, Georgia under the leadership of Pastor Hardy Clayton. Big Mike knew that true happiness could only be found in Jesus, so he did what a smart hustler would do, He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior. God gave Mike the gift to make people laugh and to share with others. After Mike lost the ability to talk, he still found ways to spread laughter and kindness. As the old cliché goes "he would give you the shirt off his back."
On Friday, August 16, 2024, God called Big Mike from labor to reward. Big Mike fought a good fight, he finished his course, he kept the faith, he took his last breath and gently transitioned to an eternal life of peace and joy.
Precious memories of Big Mike now fill the vacant place in our hearts since his transition to glory.
