Obituary

Michael Anthony Hightower, Jr. was born on February 25, 1983, in Thomasville, Georgia, to Rev. Michael A. Hightower, Sr., and Jennifer Hopkins Hightower. He entered eternal rest on July 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and unwavering love for his family and community.

At an early age, Michael accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, embracing a faith that remained the foundation of his life. He became an active member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church under the tutelage of Rev. K.L. Boyd, where he faithfully worshipped and served throughout his youth. His servant's heart, warm smile, and charismatic spirit touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion.

As a young man, Michael was an enthusiastic member of the Boy Scouts in Tallahassee, Florida. The Boy Scouts fostered his lifelong love for agriculture, the outdoors, and working with his hands. Those experiences shaped his strong work ethic, self-reliance, and passion for craftsmanship that remained with him throughout his life. During these years, he also excelled in baseball.

Michael earned his High School Diploma from Bishop Hall School, but remained a proud Thomasville High School Bulldog as an original member of the Class of 2001. On the football field, teammates and friends affectionately knew him as "Lil High." Whether on the gridiron or the baseball diamond, Michael's competitive spirit, determination, and love for teamwork were evident to all who knew him.

In August 2003, Michael welcomed his first son, Ja'Mius, and proudly embraced the role of father. He found great joy in teaching, encouraging, and spending time with his son. In August 2008, he welcomed his second son, Ja'Michael, completing the family he loved so dearly. His sons were his greatest pride and joy, and he worked diligently to provide for them while creating memories they will cherish for a lifetime.

Michael later continued his education at Southern Regional Technical College, where he earned a Welding Technician Certificate. Gifted with remarkable craftsmanship, Michael possessed a natural talent for working with his hands. He also worked in agriculture on farms near Savannah, Georgia, where his love for farming continued to grow. Additionally, Michael proudly served with Hopkins Mortuary as a Cemetery Services Assistant, helping prepare final resting places for loved ones with dignity, care, and respect. His work reflected the same compassion and servant's heart that defined every area of his life.

Michael's life was a beautiful reflection of faith, hard work, generosity, and unconditional love. One of Michael’s favorite quotes was “We Fall Down but We get up!” from a song written by Donnie McClurkin. He lived through the social/emotional struggles and challenges. To his Dad, “He is One of the Best of Them.” To his mom, he will forever remain, “My Boy.” To his sister, he is always, “My Baby Brother.” To his sons, “ He is Dad.” To his nephew, “Unc.” To so many others he was just Michael, “Lil Mike”, “Lil High,” but to GOD he remained “My Child.”

Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we rejoice in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

May he rest in eternal peace.

He leaves to cherish his memory his adoring sons, Ja'Mius Hightower and Ja'Michael Hightower; his father, Rev. Michael A, Hightower, Sr.; his loving and devoted mother, Jennifer Hopkins Hightower; his loving big sister, Christie A.
