Mary Jones Peterson was a devoted wife and loving mother who passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026. She was born in Boston, Georgia, to Ivey Jones, Sr. and Lola Mae Horne Jones, both of whom preceded her in death. Mary had a true passion for helping others, a quality that defined her life and guided her service to family, friends, and all those she encountered.
She joined St. Luke C.M.E. Church at an early age, where she was baptized and faithfully served on the usher board. She later became a member of Liberty Full Gospel Worship Center and subsequently joined her family at Immanuel Temple Church of God in Christ, where she served devotedly on the Mother’s Board until her passing.
She attended Thomasville High School and later enrolled at Thomas Technical College, where she pursued a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was employed at Hospitality Care Center for twenty-five years, where she demonstrated compassion, dedication, and a strong commitment to caring for others.
Mary was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Ivey Jones, Jr. Her sisters, Laura Bell Young, Lizzie Mae Harding, Doris Thomas, Ollie Mae Fogle, Evalenor Hayes-Bristo; sisters in law, Mattie Peterson, Susan Peterson; brothers n law, James Thomas, Timothy Peterson; niece, Jacquline Hall; great nieces, Katrina Young, Shaconda Ivey; nephews, James Young, Terry Johnson, Phillip Johnson, Marquis Jones, Reginald Cason; great nephew, Sammy Gosier; and great-great nephew, Eric Herring, Jr.
Those left to cherish her loving memories include her devoted husband, Nathaniel Peterson; her children, Saporia Hadley (Jason), Stacy Hadley, and bonus son, Kendrick Peterson (Katrina); and her grandchildren, Jarrell White, Jacaria White, Aniyah Coston, and Sameria Laing. She is also survived by her brother, David Jones; her special sister-niece, Mamie Young; sister-in-law Sarah Peterson; brothers-in-law Amos Peterson, Michael Peterson, and David Fogle. Her special nieces include Debbie Ivey, Loretha Threadcraft, Tammy Cason, Tawana George (John), Lola Kimmons, Susan Johnson, and Melissa O’Neal (Shawn); and her special nephews include Mathis Curry (Michele), Johnathan Curry (Delorise), Kelvin Kimmons, Albert Lewis Jr. (Katrina), Donnie Smith Sr. (Sonya) and Allen Johnson. She also leaves to cherish her memory her special friends, Juanita Hill, Brenda Williams, and Francina Franklin, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
