Luther James Gordon

Luther James Gordon was born on December 23, 1952 in Thomasville, GA to the late Willie Mae (Rogers) Sanders and Willie Gordon. He was raised by his parents and special father figure, late James C. Delaney. He departed this life on March 27, 2021 at his residence surrounded by family.


He joined Richland Missionary Baptist Church during his early adulthood and was a current member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Until his sickness, he was a faithful member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge #43.


He served in the Georgia Army National Guard 1230th Transportation Company as a sergeant and had tours in both the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served his country proudly until his retirement on December 23, 2012.


He was married to Carole George Gordon for over 26 years. He worked for both Southwestern State Hospital and the City of Thomasville, respectively, retiring from both. He enjoyed reading and working in the yard, but most importantly, he loved helping others.


He was proceeded in death by his brother-in-law Homer Spencer, Jr.


He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Carole George Gordon, Thomasville, GA; two daughters, Vakesha Wester (Kenyon) and Tameka Brown (Joseph) of Thomasville, GA; sisters, Betty Baker of Ocala, FL, Cynthia Harper, Patricia Whitted (Thomas), and Vena Sanders of Thomasville, GA; brothers, Oscar Locke of Camilla, GA, Alfred Hadley of Moultrie, GA, and Edward Charles Gordon of Thomasville, GA; grandchildren, Jailah Armstrong, Dakaja Samuel, and Devin Samuel of Thomasville, GA; sister-in-law, Carole Sleby-Williams of Aikens, SC; brothers-in-law, Frank Spencer (Constance) and Cleveland Spencer (Buffie) of Thomasville, GA; Kenneth Spencer (Alacia), Rufus Spencer, and Rayfield Spencer of Quitman, GA; special niece, Jessica Spencer (Boddrick) of Thomasville, GA; aunts, Lorraine Spencer, Moultrie, GA and Lillie Mae Smith, Thomasville, GA; Special pet, Nollie Gordon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
