On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Deacon Lindsey Johnson, Sr. peacefully concluded his earthly journey, leaving behind a legacy rooted in faith, love, and kindness. As a devoted member of Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church, he served with steadfast dedication, touching the lives of all who knew him. His commitment, humility, and compassion continue to inspire his family and friends. Born on June 3, 1938, in Thomas County to the late Mr. Jefferson and Mary Pearl McCaskill Johnson, Deacon Johnson blessed many with his strength of character and gentle spirit.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma Newkirk Johnson, cherished granddaughter, Saferia Johnson, three dear sister, Dora Mae Johnson, Betty Jean Johnson, Ether Lee Johnson, four treasured brothers, Henry "Sonny Johnson, Willie J. Johnson, Willie C. Johnson, and Walter "Bud" Johnson.
Deacon Johnson’s memory will forever be treasured by his loving children, Denise Scott and Lindsey Johnson, Jr., both of Thomasville, GA; Tressa Johnson Clements (James) and Carol Mechelle Johnson Holmes (Randy), both of Valdosta, GA. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Altovise Andrews (Keith) of Fayetteville, GA, Tara Slater-Mitchell (James) of South Fulton, GA, Jamarca Manson of Valdosta, GA, Jace Davis of Fayetteville, GA, Bailey Foreman of South Fulton, GA, Josiah Middleton and Kyrie Johnson, both of Valdosta, GA. He is warmly remembered by his devoted sisters, Bernice Johnson, Joanne Johnson, both of Thomasville, GA and Mammie Johnson of Patterson, NJ; two caring sisters-in-law, Emma Newkirk and Doris Jackson, both of Atlanta, GA; and his brother-in-law, Willie Newkirk of Norfolk, VA. A special friend, Mrs. Mary Arrington; along with many other nieces, nephews, church members and steadfast friends, all who shared in his warmth and wisdom, Deacon Johnson’s spirit will continue to shine brightly through those who loved and admired him.
