Joseph Ross

January 24, 1961 — August 4, 2025

On January 24, 1961, the tenth of eleven children was born to the late Willie James, Sr., and Ida Mae Massey-Ross.  They named him Joseph.  Joe, as he's affectionately known by family and friends, was a very outgoing and comical child.  He was educated in the Thomas County School System.  Following his time in school, he was an extensive traveler.  He would take root in various cities in North and South Carolina, as well as his home state of Georgia.  After years of health challenges, God called our beloved Joe to rest in the land of no more sickness while residing in the Atlanta Area.

Joe wasn't a big sports fan, but he loved Coach Bobby Bowden and the Florida State Seminoles. He would always say one day Coach Bowden will come to the house to ask him to play football for him at FSU.  His siblings would laugh at and with him, but he was as serious as a heart attack!  This is just one of many creations of his imagination he would share.  Joe was known to be a well-dressed and put together man.  He would take hours getting his outfits ready and coordinated, no matter the occasion.  We would always say he missed his call in fashion.

Joe's earthly presence will be missed immensely by his surviving siblings: Mary Jane Ross-Glass, Dr. Fred Henry Ross, Johnnie Mae Ross-Stockton, Irene Ross-Howard, Sandra Ross-Johnson, Charlie Ross and David Ross.  He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and special first cousins, the Mitchell family.  He is preceded in death by his parents Willie James Ross, Sr. and Ida Mae Ross as well as his siblings: Gloria Ross-Frazier, Willie James Ross, Jr., and Everlena Ross-Joyner.
