John James Ferrell (a.k.a. "Tugar" or "Long John") was born to the late Jim and Letha Ferrell on July 5, 1937 in Ochlocknee, Georgia.
He lived in various Florida cities for many years before returning to Thomasville in the mid-1990s. He was a Baptist by faith and firmly believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour.
John was a former City of Thomasville and Collins Pecan Company employee. He was a graduate of Magnolia High School.
He was an avid sports fan with his favorite teams being the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. His ability to play baseball and basketball was extraordinary. Many who knew him during that time still comment on how great of a player he was.
He is survived by his loving, devoted nieces, Rosa Marie Cooper, Catherine Elaine Williams, and Audrea Ferrell; his nephews, Roosevelt Williams, Jr., Ricky Ferrell, Thomas Ferrell, and Mark Ferrell, as well as a host of great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his eleven brothers and sisters Willie Lambright, Virginia Curry Dodson, Charles Cowart, Jimmy Cowart, Fred Cowart, Lillie Mae Cowart, Jessie Mae Cowart, Jim Miller, Rose Lee Miller, Marie Miller Taylor, and Tommy Ferrell.
