Jimmy Washington was born on May 11, 1942, in Valdosta, GA. He was the youngest of seven children to the late Leatha and Columbus Washington.
He attended the Valdosta School System. He also attended Tabernacle Church of God.
He began his career as a co-owner of Jimmy and Frank Grocery in 1961. Later the business expanded and became known as Southside Mini Market. His business interest continued, and he became the owner of Southside Coin Laundry. He also owned a restaurant and rental properties.
During his 60 plus years as a businessman, he was co-recipient of "Keys to the City" from Mayor Lewis and the Arrington Catering Award.
Mr. Washington loved his family and friends. He married Dorothy Peters on June 19, 1961. To their union, two sons were born. He instilled in his children to be faithful and hardworking. Survivors to mourn and cherish his memory, his devoted son, Jeffery (Brenda) Washington; grandchildren, Kiki, Ramard, Alexis, Miyah, Barbara, Markescia, Marcus, Malcolm and Cameron; great grandchildren, Kirsten, Keshaun, Micah, Jamison, Kyla, Kadin, Josiah, Maliyah, Kengie, McKenzie, Kason, Giselle and Jace; god children, Sabryn, Ravyn, Kieram, Gabriella, Chauncey, Amber and Brittany; special godchild, Perida Mitchell; loving sister, Mrs. Doris Stone of Valdosta, GA; sisters in law, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Ward, Mrs. Ruth (Murrie) Barnett, Mrs. Patricia (Darrell) Barron; brothers in law, Reverend Timothy (Effie) White, all of Thomasville, GA, Mr. Charles (Rebecca) Peters of Newark, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Dorothy Washington; parents, Columbus and Leatha Washington; son, Kenny Washington; siblings, Mr. Columbus, Thomas, Edward, Frank and Robert Washington.
