James Edward Wimberly Jr. was born on December 18, 1956, in Mitchell County, Georgia, to the late James Edward Wimberly Sr. and Bernice Wimberly. He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and united with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Raised in the heart of Mitchell County, James grew up surrounded by the love of a large and close-knit family, which shaped the values that would guide his life: love, loyalty, and a deep sense of care for others.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bernice Wimberly; his beloved wife, Barbara Wimberly; his son, Michael Terell Wimberly; two sisters; and one brother. Though their absence was deeply felt, he carried their memory in his heart throughout his life.
James was a man whose quiet strength and warm heart left an imprint on everyone he met. He had endless love for the late Barbara Wimberly, and a loving father to five children: Shawn Thomas (Tamara Johnson), Shernell Irvin of Thomasville, Georgia, Travis Johnson Sr. (Daishea Gaines) of Conyers, Georgia, Bernita Johnson of Morrow, Georgia, and Andrea Wimberly of Morrow, Georgia. His role as a father was one of his greatest joys, and his love extended even
further to his 15 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren whom he adored and cherished.
He is also survived by his siblings: Tommy (Gwen) Wimberly Sr. of Camilla, Georgia; Cecil Wimberly of Camilla, Georgia; Horris Wimberly of Camilla, Georgia; Darryl Wimberly of Bainbridge, Georgia; and Lee (Jennifer) Wallace of Camilla, Georgia; Patricia (Paul) Davis Sr. of Camilla, Georgia. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends—each of whom
he loved dearly.
James had a love for life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing and treasured every moment spent with his family. Whether sharing stories on the porch, casting a line on a quiet afternoon, or laughing over a home-cooked meal, James found joy in togetherness.
Above all, James valued his family. He built his life around them, pouring love and wisdom into every relationship. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the stories he told, and the love he gave so freely.
Though he has gone on to rest, the memory of James Edward Wimberly Jr. will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His was a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed.
