James Lewis Mickens was born August 8, 1952 in Thomas County, Georgia to the late Willie Mickens, Sr. and the late Hattie Mae Gaston Mickens.
He departed this life on February 4, 2024, after a short stay at Harborview of Thomasville.
James attended Coolidge School and was employed by City of Thomasville. After his health declined, he resided at Harborview of Thomasville until his death. He accepted Christ as his Savior later in life under the leadership of the late Pastor Andrew Hamilton at Berean Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Stephen Mickens, Sr. and Marcus Lewis Mickens, whom he borne with Fannie Walker Mickens Harper. Also, six grandchildren, Stephen Mickens, Jr., Tavis Mickens, A. J. Hicks, Dakara Sharpe, Dajanae Mickens, Starr Brown; one step grandson, Marquez Lovejoy; one great grandchild, Kayden Mickens; his brother, John W. (Mary) Mickens, sister, Mattie Mickens Hollis all of Thomasville, Georgia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Frederick Mickens, two brothers, Willie Mickens, Jr., Freddie Mickens; two sisters, Dorothy Mickens Jackson and Bennie Mae Mickens Taylor.
