The eldest of four, Mr. Herod Mitchell, Jr. was the most meticulous of all of Mr. Herod and Mrs. Princetta Mitchell Sr.'s children. Prior to their passing, they instilled in Herod, Jr. the importance of having integrity and a good character by rearing him in the love and admonition of Jesus Christ. As time would pass, he would prove that not compromising with his integrity and adhering to his core values, doors would open so that he could blaze new trails for his family's legacy.
"Mr. June" not only had a successful thirty year career with Coats and Clark, he was the first African American to start and maintain a successful full care lawn service. His clients were not just limited to residential areas, he also had contracts in the commercial sector. In his later years, Herod worked for Hurst Boiler until his health began to fail. A graduate from Douglas High School and the Walton Vocational Technical School's Automotive Program, Mr. Herod Mitchell, Jr. indeed left a legacy of faith, family, and perseverance. He was the best dressed, hardest working family man in all of Thomasville, Thomas County. He made no excuses and was a great inspiration to many.
Herod was blessed with a blended loving family. He married his best friend and forever love, Constance "Lois" Scott. He helped raise his blended family with love, discipline and faith in God. He taught his daughters and son's work ethics, pray always, enjoy family and be strong in the Lord. He took pride in watching his grandchildren grow and continue to carry his legacy of faith, family and hard work.
Herod is survived by his wife, Constance; his son, Herod Mitchell, III; his daughters, Chandra Blake (Denny Blake), Zarquta Smith (Thaddeus Smith); his grandchildren, Lauren Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell, Desmal Head, Tiana Hill, Kydetrius Thomas, Paige Knuckles, Tyler Knuckles, and Daisha Smith; his great- grandchildren, McKenzie Brooks, Tailynn Hill; his siblings, Mattie Walden (Ira Walden), Earnest Mitchell (Chantell Mitchell), Melvin Mitchell (Maria Mitchell); his sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Todd Hill.
