Herbert Alexander

February 12, 1946 — July 22, 2023

Herbert Alexander "Georgia Boy" was born on February 12, 1946, to the late Ethel A. Alexander and Clifford Alexander in Thomasville, Georgia. He received Christ at an early age. He attended James Weldon Johnson Elementary and Stanton High School in Jacksonville, Florida upon receiving GED. He also attended Trenton State University in Trenton, New Jersey (1973) and Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia (1976).


After leaving home at an early age, he joined the US Army in August 2, 1965. Serving his time in the US Army, he later joined the US Air Force on July 1, 1969. Herbert Alexander over the years traveled across the countries globally, Paris, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Japan, just to name a few.


Leaving the military in 1975, Herbert moved back to Jacksonville, FL, where he became manager of a twenty-four units hotel ocean frontage in Fernandina, FL.


He moved to Sacramento California, where he employed as a Forest Ranger for the state of California. Then later to Atlanta Georgia where Herbert became a Sale Representative for McBride Hair Products, one of the largest Black hair products companies in the Southeast area. He returned to Thomasville, GA, continuing is passion for leadership, seeking social justice for people of all colors, campaigning and running for US Congressman for the surrounding counties of Thomasville, GA.


Later he resided in Tallahassee, FL, as a homeowner, until remaining at VA Hospital in Lake City, FL.


His pleasures and hobbies are golf, boating, fishing, cooking and barbecuing for his family and friends, he even made his own barbecue sauce from scratch.


He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Alexander; father, Clifford Alexander; siblings, Billy E. Alexander, Joseph F. Alexander, Shirley A. Alexander, Clifton H. Alexander and Clifford T. Alexander; son, Tyrone Alexander and sister-in-law, Annie Ruth Alexander.


To honor his memory and carry on his legacy, his son, Herbert Benjamin (Shauntye) Alexander; grandsons, Kahlil Alexander and Karter Alexander. His daughter, Chrysanthemum Alexander; grandsons, Dontez Gibson and Dash Harvey; granddaughter, Samara Gilson. His granddaughter, Precious Bautista Alexander; grandsons, Mariyiea Bautista-Sloan and Levi Tyrone Padilla, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He also leaves his brother, Jerry (Maria M.) Alexander, Decatur, GA, sister-in-law, Mattie Williams Alexander, Brooklyn, New York; favorite cousin as a sister, Sally Graham, Thomasville, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
