Gloria H. McCuthin was born in Thomasville, GA, on April 30, 1934, to the late Theodore Roosevelt Hayes Sr. and Irene Fields Hayes. She was the first of three children; proceeded in death by Miriam Johnson (Joseph) and Theodore Roosevelt Hayes Jr.
Gloria graduated from Douglas High School in Thomasville, GA in 1950. She graduated from Albany State University, where she was crowned Ms. Albany State. She received her B.S Degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduation she taught elementary school in GA and Philadelphia PA. She retired from Thomasville City Schools after 30 years of service as a teacher.
Gloria was a member of St. Thomas AME Church in Thomasville, GA. where she was a devoted member. She was the pianist for the adult gospel choir, and taught Bible school at the church.
Her enjoyment after retirement was raising and teaching her grandchildren. Her hobbies included interior decorating, gardening, and playing the piano at the Scott Senior Citizen Center. She also loved dancing and music.
Gloria married the late Moses Lawyer, their union created two daughters: Monique Lawyer (John), and Jocelyn Thompson. After his death, she married Lawrence McCuthin.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Lawrence McCuthin; two daughters, Monique Lawyer (John), and Jocelyn Thompson; stepchildren, Lawrence McCuthin, Jr., Cassandra Bell, Debra Frazier, Beatrice Sears; grandchildren, India Madison (Trenton), Ja'Nique Lawyer-Clayton, Brandon Thompson, DaSani Lawyer-Clayton, Tarshe McCuthin, and Tonya McCuthin; great grandchildren, Bryce James, Nova Madison, and Alycea Madison. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives that adored her.
