Geraldine, known as "Geri" to all of her friends and "Sue" to all of her family was called to heaven October 10, 2020.
She was born on April 30, 1939 to Minnie Gibson Caesar and Russell Caesar. She was the fourth of seven girls and older brother, Norman Ceasar who have all preceeded her in death. She is survived by the youngest of the Caesar children, her brother, Sam Caesar.
She graduated from Savannah State College, BA in Education. At Savannah State, she became a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. In addition to studying education, she also studied music and became an accomplished vocalist. She participated in the early Civil Rights Sit-Ins, protesting the integration of the lunch counters at Woolworth in Savannah, GA. She was known to be a champion for justice throughout her life. She always challenged people to "Live Right" and was consistently the "peacemaker". Always a student of history, she had a natural vocation for teaching Social Studies. She believed in responsible government. She served as both a census taker and poll worker, underscoring her appreciation for the freedoms of democracy. Geraldine began teaching adult education with the State of Georgia. In 1976, she began teaching at Thomasville HS, where she retired from after 30 plus years. As an educator, she truly found her calling. Her lessons went well beyond curriculum and reached in to change people's lives. Through the years, she inspired, mentored, blessed, touched, taught and uplifted hundreds. She was a mentor to many young teachers helping them to navigate the difficult early years of teaching.
After retirement, she volunteered at Archbold Hospital because she enjoyed helping serve the community.
Geraldine accepted Christ and was raised in First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Valdosta, GA. She joined Clifford Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Thomasville, GA after marriage.
Geraldine married the love of her life on August 18, James Greene Jr, a bond that matured for more than 53 years.
As a Pastor's wife since 1979, she served the church faithfully and diligently. Through the decades, she served as organist, soloist, lay leader, missionary, stewardess, Sunday School teacher, and the best preacher's wife ever.
Geraldine was preceded in death by twins, Princetta and Minnetta Greene, born in 1969.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, James Greene Jr.; her children, Patricia Ann Scott and James Greene III; her favorite son in law, Artis Scott; grandchildren, Artis Scott III and Christina Scott; great grandson, Azai Scott. She was the family matriarch and leaves behind scores of nieces and nephews and cousins.
