Garvey Lawrence Scott, affectionately known as "Do-Bee" by his immediate family, was born February 5, 1969, in Thomasville, Georgia, to Mrs. Norma H. Scott and the late John Scott. On a rainy Sunday afternoon in Fenton, Missouri, he left his space and time surrounded by loved ones.
Garvey joined Bethany Congregation Church as a child and remained affiliated with his church until he left home for college and life. Garvey was a proud 1987 graduate of Thomasville High School. He furthered his education and received his Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design in 1995 from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He also matriculated at the University of Missouri- Kansas City, where he studied for his Master of Education. Among his most treasured accomplishments was his time as a staff photographer for the Kansas City Star, a role wherein he built strong friendships and lasting memories.
Garvey was an avid lover of the arts, as evidenced by his massive collection of music and artwork. Those who knew him best knew that Prince was his all-time favorite musician, with Fishbone closely following. Another passion was the guitar, which was played by his beloved Prince. He found joy in capturing life through his camera lens and expressing his creativity as a talented sketch artist and painter. A young Garvey was an amazing tennis player who received many awards and accolades for his skills on the tennis court.
Those left to cherish his memory include son, Logan Alexander Scott, Manchester, MO; Maya Simone Scott, New Orleans, LA. Mother: Norma H. Scott, Sister: Jacquelyn (Rev. Ananias, III) Hopkins, Brother: Dea. Terry (Glenda) Scott, all of Thomasville, GA; Best friend and cousin, Reginald (Brenda) Scott of Tampa, FL; Niece: Heather Hopkins; Nephews: Ananias Hopkins, IV, Christopher (Ny'Teefa) Hopkins, Keldrick Harrison, LaDarius Hall; and a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He held a lasting respect and appreciation for his former wife, Kelly Scott, and the Smith family for their continued love and support throughout his time in Missouri. Garvey cherished countless friendships that became like family. He will be remembered with love by them all.
Immediate family members who preceded him in death include his father, John Scott; Paternal grandparents: Elmo and Indiana Scott; Maternal grandparents: Lawrence, Sr., and Edna Hughes.
