Mr. Freddy “Fred” Lee Hopkins, a devoted man of faith, father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully at his residence in Riverdale, Georgia, on November 15, 2025, at the age of 84.
Fred was born on October 8, 1941, in Donaldsonville, Georgia, to Forest T. Hopkins and Sallie Allen Brown. He spent his formative years in Thomasville, Georgia, and attended Douglas High School before leaving home to serve his country.
Fred was a proud veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged for his faithful service to our nation. Following his military service, he committed himself to furthering his technical education, earning an associate degree in applied science in Computer Engineering
Technology from Tampa Technical Institute.
This relentless pursuit for education and growth shaped Fred into a highly skilled and resourceful man, famously known for his ability to fix just about anything. Throughout his professional life, he held diverse positions, including Plant Maintenance Electrician, Mobile
Home Electrical Technician, Small Appliance Repairman, and Machine Operator. A talented small engine mechanic and handyman, he was always willing to lend his expertise to help friends and neighbors. Outside of his work, Fred was an avid outdoorsman who found peace
and enjoyment in nature through hunting and fishing.
Fred lived with a strong belief in Christ and commitment to his faith. He joined New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville, Georgia, at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Frank Martin. He was later ordained as a Deacon by Reverend Sylvester Williams,
serving diligently as a member of the men’s choir and the treasury committee, and faithfully supporting various ministry services.
Freddy’s impact and memory will be forever cherished by the many lives he touched.
He is survived by his four devoted children: Demetrius L. Hopkins (Colette), Faye A. Lee (Lance), Jared D. Hopkins (April), and Fredrika J. McPhee (Stanley). He also leaves behind a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his siblings: Benjamin Brown (Kathy), Ira “Rap” Brown, Nathaniel Brown,
Fredrick Brown, Mamie Brown, Jane “Sallie” B. Anderson (Troy), Cathy Hopkins, Forrest Hopkins Jr., Cleatus Hopkins, and Cassandra Hopkins.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister, Corene Williams-Collins, and his brothers, Japhus Williams and Arthur Lee Brown.
