Everett Wilson, 72, of Thomasville, GA, passed away on November 30, 2024 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born on February 10, 1952 to the late Mr. Troy Wilson and late Mrs. Katie Wilson, Everett was noted by many to be a hard-working and devoted man to his skills and talents.
Everett was known by the nickname "Sugarman," describing the endearment that his family and close friends had for him. As a young adult, he was employed at Georgia Crate. He eventually followed his calling to serve in the military and enlisted in the U.S. Army. In 1971, he met his life partner, Edna Pearl Wilson and in 1973, the two were married. While in the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC (now Ft. Liberty) for two years before he returned to Thomasville. After his return, Everett served as a Hometown Recruiter for the 82nd Airborne Division. He later received an honorable discharge as an E4, and following his military service, Everett forged a lifelong career at Southwestern State Hospital where he was employed for 33 years. While with Southwestern State Hospital, he started as a Health Services Technician and retired as an Activity Leader. Along his life's journey, he shared his favorite past times with his family which included avid interests in fishing, golfing, gardening, carpentry, and expressing his creativity in many ways. Whether it was a day spent catching bream at a lake or river, a Sunday spent perfecting his golf swing on the fairways, or preparing his home garden (and ultimately his family and friends) for fruitful produce, Everett was sure to spend time outdoors, connecting with nature. He always welcomed friends and acquaintances to share in his experiences, and provided wisdom and insights gained throughout his life when asked. He navigated his life by the adage, "It's what you make it," and truly fulfilled the meaning of his name, Everett, which means "strong as a boar" or more symbolically: "Brave." Anyone who knew Everett could attest that he was strong-willed and determined, and would not back down to challenges presented to him. But more so, he was known to help anyone who needed him regardless of what he received in return.
Loved ones who preceded Everett in death are his father and mother, Troy and Katie Wilson; sister, Freda Wilson; and brother, Troy L. Wilson.
