Born Emma Pearl Jackson on September 27, 1955, to the late Deacon Robert Eddie and Fannie Belle Washington Jackson in Thomas County Georgia. She was the youngest of 10 children.  She departed this life on December 28, 2023, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in the Inpatient Hospice Care Unit.

Emma confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church and remained a member until adulthood before moving her membership to St. Paul P.B. Church under the leadership of Elder Richard Matthews. She was a faithful member of the choir until the pandemic. After the pandemic precautions were lifted, she was unable to fully give her all to singing anymore. She remained a member of St. Paul until her death under the current pastor, Kenton Floyd.

Emma attended the Thomas County School System, graduating from Central High School (now Thomas County Central High) in 1974. It was there at Central High that she met her future husband, George McCoy, Jr., in 1970. The two would go on to marry 4 years later and remained married until his death in 2015. To this union one child was born, a daughter, Cassandra.

Emma worked a few odd jobs in the early 80s before becoming employed by Louise Ireland Humphrey on the Kelly Pond and Woodfield Plantations. She worked for Mrs. Humphrey for over 28 years before leaving to care for her ailing sister and later her husband.
