Elsie Leaphart

January 10, 1962 — November 28, 2025

Elsie Leaphart, born on January 10, 1962, to the late Lois Jackson Leaphart, departed this life on November 28, 2025. Throughout her journey, Elsie exemplified warmth, dedication, and resilience. She was educated in the Miami-Dade School system, laying a strong foundation for her professional life. A compassionate caregiver, she served as a nurse aide, dedicating herself to the well-being of others until her health began to fail.

From an early age, Elsie made Miami, Florida her home after being adopted by her aunts, Marion Lawyer and Nellie Brown. Later in life, she relocated back to her roots in Thomasville, Georgia, where she continued to foster her connections with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Latrice Johnson, who brought her immense pride and joy. Elsie was also a loving grandmother to her two grandchildren, Jasmine and Damian Davis. A significant presence in her life was her devoted companion, Marty Snell, who stood by her side through life’s challenges.

Elsie's affection extended far beyond her immediate family. She cherished her godchildren: Anna Burrell, Sharika Brown, Everette Chin, Tina Chin, Shana Keith, and Tanquilla Sapp, all from Miami, Florida. Her brothers—Xavier (Christine) Leaphart, Joseph (MaryAlice) Leaphart, Michael (late Miriam) Leaphart, Ferrondon (Yvonne) Leaphart, Bishop Richard Leaphart-Mack (First Lady Synetra) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Steve Leaphart of Thomasville, Georgia—held a special place in her heart, as did her sisters: Jacqueline Leaphart Samuel (late Alfred) of Thomasville, Waltina Leaphart, and Schantrina Leaphart of Jersey City, New Jersey. Additionally, her devoted and loving niece, Shantreal Mitchell, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, comprised an extended family that Elsie cherished deeply.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Jackson Leaphart; brother, Bruce Leaphart and two aunts, Marion Lawyer and Nellie Brown. Elsie's legacy of love and care will continue to resonate in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
