Dorothy Worthy Wimes

Dorothy Worthy Wimes born on January 4, 1952, in Mitchell County, Georgia, peacefully entered eternal rest on October 1, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph Worthy Sr. and Ida Bell Edwards Worthy, and one of thirteen children raised in a household filled with love, resilience, and faith.

Having accepted Christ at an early age at Sinner Friend Baptist Church, Dorothy remained devoted to her faith throughout her life. She was a member of the Gospel Harmonettes, made up of her sisters and Nephews of Meigs, Georgia. Later, she became a faithful and active member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she served diligently in various capacities. Dorothy loved singing for the lord and serving God's people. Her Sunshine smile, and her Contagious personality exudes her deep commitment to her faith and community. Her Benevolence was evident in every action, as she spent her days giving back, encouraging others, and serving with grace. Dorothy was Always as she would say "Being About Her Father's Business" in any capacity that she could.

A proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1972, Dorothy carried her educational journey with pride and held the Yellow Jacket's name near and dear to her heart. The day after graduation she married her lifelong partner, Willie Charles Wimes Sr., and they shared 52 years of unwavering love and commitment beginning June 4, 1972. Dorothy was able to support her family working as a medical assistant and working at Goody's in Pelham, Georgia for over 15 years. She was also employed by Textron Inc. of Thomasville, Georgia for over 22 years, until she retired. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children: Willie Charles Wimes Jr., Sylena Nicole Wimes, and Chandylor (Quinton, Sr.) Wimes Peterson, all of whom were the light of her life.

She was a devoted and nurturing grandmother to eight grandchildren: Unique Darey (Juan), Quanesha Moolenaar, Vontreigh Smith, Wanya Thompson, Ta'Nijha Wimes, Darrien Bivings, Quinton Peterson Jr., and Aya Peterson. She also experienced the special joy of becoming a
great-grandmother to A'Niyah Moolenaar.

She is preceded in death by her loving siblings: sisters, Annie Jean Worthy, Betty Haynes, Evelyn Worthy, Cora Lee Scott, Maggie Wynn, Louise Gouch, Willie Mae Jackson, Essie Carter, Nadine Taylor, Annie Jewel Williams, Joann Davis, and her brother, Joseph Worthy Jr. She also joins in eternity, her godmothers, Lillie Ruth Gibson and Rudetha Atkins, as well as her god sisters, Pearlie Mae Gibson and Pauline Gibson.

Dorothy will always be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her dedication to her community, and her love of family and for people. Her legacy lives on through her loving husband, Willie Charles Wimes Sr.; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, her two sisters, Josephine (Jimmy) Rawls, Annie Lee Worthy; her brother, David (Sandra) Worthy; her bonus children, Angela Hopkins, Catlin Nixon, Beverly Poole, Corlett Frazier, Lee Frazier, and Emma (Jimmy) Holton; her cherished nieces, nephews and cousins, and the countless lives she touched through her community service. Dorothy will be Prominently known for her Big Personality and her Infectious Smile that lights up the room.
