He is remembered as a dedicated professional and a devout individual whose love for God and family was evident in all he did.
Detrick's early years were spent in Thomasville, where he attended Thomasville High School. A passionate athlete, he proudly donned the Bulldogs' jersey as number 72 and played football, a sport that brought him immense joy. His teammates affectionately nicknamed him "Det the Deacon" for his unwavering belief in prayer, as he led them in prayer before each game. He graduated with his high school diploma in 1995 and later continued his education at Thomas University.
With a commitment to aiding others, Detrick embarked on a career dedicated to mental health. He began his professional journey at Southwest State Hospital, where he worked for many years. His passion for helping others led him to work with various employers within the mental health field. In 2016, Detrick married and relocated to Tallahassee, Florida, where he continued to pursue his passion for mental health.
In late 2022, Detrick moved to Metcalf, Georgia, a transition that came with personal challenges as he fell ill. Throughout his final days, he remained steadfast in his faith and shared his love for God, demonstrating the indomitable spirit that characterized his life.
Detrick leaves behind a loving family, including his only sister, Patricia Willingham Lewis, and her husband Devin. He is survived by his cherished nieces, Kamarayn Spencer, Raven Jones, India Jones; and nephew, Ronnie Jones, Jr. Additionally, he will be fondly remembered by his special aunt, Teresa Gathers Walton and her husband Anthony, alongside his uncles, Arthur Davis, Anthony Davis, Roger Davis, and John Morrall, as well as a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
