Delphia Lean Hopkins Hill was born December 30, 1931, in Decatur County, Georgia, to Reverend William and Lucille C. Hopkins. Raised in a Christian home with twelve siblings, she carried her faith, kindness, and generosity throughout her life. She spent much of her adult life in the Thomasville, Georgia, area, where she raised her family, worked, and built a life of strength and independence. Ochlocknee was her home during her final years.
Delphia retired from Southwestern State Hospital, receiving numerous awards for her food service work. An entrepreneur, she operated a soul food restaurant, was a Mary Kay director with her favorite friend Estelle, and owned Hill's Bail Bonding. Delphia also earned her diploma in cosmetology, another example of her entrepreneurial spirit. She was a woman of many talents who was never afraid to pursue new opportunities. Delphia believed in hard work, perseverance, and making opportunities for herself and others. Her entrepreneurial spirit became part of her family's legacy, inspiring her children and grandchildren to pursue their own dreams and business ventures.
Always stylish and confident, Delphia was loving, outspoken, funny, and wonderfully sassy. Her home welcomed family, friends, and anyone who needed a good meal or a mother's love. She would tease, 'Well, you were worth two cents, but now you're definitely worth five cents!' and joke, 'Imma knock you under the stove!'
Delphia was preceded in death by her son, Edwin Paris. She leaves eight surviving children and her beloved sisters Kate Hopkins and Willie Mae Hayes, along with grandchildren, great - grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Delphia’s earthly journey ended on October 16, 2026, at age 94. Her legacy of faith, love, strength, laughter, and generosity will continue through the lives she touched.
