Charlie C. Kerbo was born in Pavo, GA, the son of the late Preston Kerbo and Pauline Grant Kerbo. He was one of the eldest children and was a loving brother to his twelve siblings. He grew up in Thomasville, GA and became a lifelong resident. Charlie loved to have fun and was the king of the dance floor. James Brown had nothing on him!
Charlie worked in the cement production industry for many years employed by Scott Construction and Florida Rock. He worked other jobs in later years until failing health led to his retirement. Charlie was a member of St. Luke CME Church and returned to his spiritual roots as he grew older. His favorite pastimes were watching westerns, playing solitaire and checkers, doing crossword puzzles and the daily reading of his bible. He had a spirit of gratitude in learning the word and getting closer to God.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters - Mary Evelyn Kerbo, Ora Lee Dennis, and brothers - Tommy Kerbo, Ernest Kerbo, and Moses Kerbo. Charlie leaves a large and loving family who mourn his passing including his wife - Connie Smith Kerbo; children – Richard Curry, Louise Phillips, Sharon (Cedric) Brown, Felicia (Alfred) McCray, Jermaine Smith, Demetrice (Terica) Brown, and his youngest son Charlie Kerbo, Jr. who was his right-hand man who used his broad shoulders as strength for his father every day; a very special niece that was like a daughter - Edwina Dennis, who provided constant care and support; grandchildren including - Demetrie McCray, Sr., Cedric Brown, Jr., Domonique McCray, Shanesia McCray Stephens, Jarrell Smith, Jazariah Smith, Semaja Brown, Demetrice Brown, Jr., Kristen Brown, Dorian Brown, Katina Curry, and Dale Curry.
Charlie is also survived by nine siblings whom he cherished dearly and enjoyed spending time with – Eva Green, John Kerbo, Raymond Kerbo, Lester Kerbo, Clifford (Regina) Kerbo, Jacqueline (Jessie) Lovett, Carolyn Simmons, Darlene (Michael) Booker, and Tracey Grant. He also had loving in-laws including sisters and brothers-in-law – Betty Cherry, Lucy Smith, Willie (Gloria) Smith, Donnie Smith, George Smith, Clifford Corker, and Donald Smith. Family gatherings were always a highlight for him. Charlie also leaves a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives, and friends.
