He attended Thomas County Public Schools.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 26 years Emma Lee Carter, mother, Doris Carter, his father, John H. Carter, a sister, Betty Jean Lovejoy and a daughter, Tina McCraw

He departed this life on February 3, 2025.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Linda Mitchell (Antonio), Tangelia Mitchell (Christopher), and Alashia Ivey (Nard) of Thomasville, GA; one brother, Gregory Carter (Stephanie), Vanessa Carter ( Walter), Elise Carter Meigs, GA and Sandra McKenzie (Kelcey) of Ocala, FL, three sisters in law, Evelyn Bryant of Cairo, GA, Everlene Pace (William) of Pelham, GA, Delois Hatten of Quincy, FL; brothers in law, Charles Breedlove of Daytona Beach, FL, Eddie Reed of Tampa, FL, fourteen grandchildren, thirty one great-grandchildren, a special daughter/ niece, Janet Henderson (Allen) of Leesburg, GA; friend, Cathy Tuggerson of Ocala, FL and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
