MR. CALVIN LUTHER TURNER, SR.
A TIME TO BE BORN – It was a day ordained by God to illuminate the world with one more speck of light in Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia, on March 25, 1945 to the late James and Evelyn Jones Turner.
A TIME TO GROW – He was reared by his parents who insisted he learn more and have more educational opportunities than they had. He attended Susie Dunlap Elementary School, Douglass High School and Walton Vocational Technical College (Southwest GA Technical College) with a degree in brick masonry in Thomasville, GA.
A TIME TO LOVE – In 1967, he married Lille Mae Brown. To this union three children were born. He was very transparent and raised his children to be independent and taught them to stand through adversity. He never met anyone he could not speak with – friend or foe.
A TIME TO WORK – He began his labor early working as a newspaper carrier while in high school. After he graduated from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He later went on to work at Archbold Memorial Hospital and Southwestern State Hospital, where he retired after 25 years of services.
A TIME TO SERVE – Mr. Turner joined St. Thomas A. M. E. Church at an early age, where he served faithfully as a cub scout master, on the Trustee Board and organized the Men's Saturday Morning Prayer Group. He served faithfully with the American Legion, Men's Club, Georgia State Retirees Association, Douglass High School Alumni and the Democratic Party. He was an advocate for encouraging others to exercise their right to vote. He served in the United States Army for four years after which receiving an honorable discharge.
A TIME TO DIE – With just seven days prior to a day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, his work on Earth concluded. On Saturday, December 18, 2021 he laid down before daylight to rest his head on his pillow, but God knew this sleep would mark his earthly departure.
A TIME TO REMEMBER – He leaves behind a beautiful legacy filled with favor and warm memories. This legacy is left to his lovely wife of 54 years, Mrs. Lillie Mae Turner; devoted sons, Calvin (Takiyah) Turner, Jr., Atlanta, GA, Carlton Turner, Thomasville, GA and one loving daughter, Rev. Chavetta (Richard) Carter, Cairo, GA; 13 treasured grandchildren, Calandria Turner, D'Andre (Michele) Turner, Chanaya (Carrington) Williams, Ashley Wright, Chane' Camak, Chemberli McClenton, Carmen McClenton, Malcolm McClenton, Cardacia Turner, De'Rajona Turner, A'mod Turner, Astarjay Clark, and A'mya Turner; 10 precious great-grandchildren, Janasia, Jace, DeBari, Araji, Saige, Daleah, Destinee, Kaylin, Kameron, and Nani; Godchildren, Tammi Jackson and Terry Thompson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the seemingly, unbreakable bond he shared with the Douglass High School Class of 1963.
