Blanche Harris

January 24, 1942 — August 11, 2022

Blanche M. Harris was the six child born on January 24, 1942 to the late Ernest Harris Sr. and the late Emma M. Harris in Thomas County, GA. Blanche was known for making her famous Rum balls or Rum Cake for the family during the Christmas Holiday Seasons and each year they would look forward to them. We also enjoyed her famous raisin and coleslaw salad during family cookouts.
She was a 1960 graduate of Magnolia High School, where she played basketball for the Buccaneers. Blanche accepted Christ at an early age by joining Bethlehem Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and was a faithful member there. She served as missionary, stewardess and was also the Church Treasury and on the Usher Board until her health started to fail. She was not only a hearer of the word, but also a doer.
Blanche work at Southwestern State Hospital for 34 years as a HST Lead before retiring. Upon retiring, Blanche started making quilts for family and friends. Which was a favorite hobby of her mother. She would make quilts that told stories, like the Underground Railroad quilt she made, and also family history quilts.
Another favorite pastime of Blanche was watching her Atlanta Braves play, either in person or on television. She also enjoyed watching basketball and football. Back in the 70s' and 80s' you could see her at The Thomasville Bulldogs games cheering them on to victory.
Blanche leaves to cherish her precious memories, two devoted sons, Anthony J. Harris (Debra), Joseph "Joe" Harris (Rhonda), both from Thomasville, Georgia; one granddaughter, Shakura R. Harris, Tallahassee, Florida; one grandson, Zachariah J. Harris, Suffolk, Virginia; two great granddaughters, Madison Fleming and Autumn Harris, both from Tallahassee, Florida; two brothers, Rufus Harris (Monica) Detroit, Michigan; and William "Bill" Harris Thonotosassa, Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest Harris Jr., David Harris Sr., and Henry Harris, and three sisters, Rosa L. Harris, Elizabeth H. Jackson and Thelma Harris and one nephew, Ernest L. Harris, Sr.
