Bessie Mae Arrington, age 85, of Thomasville, GA passed away after a brief illness on August 16, 2021.
She was the fifth of nine children born on May 12, 1936 in Thomas County, raised in the area of Merriville, GA to the late Les and Mary Lee Arrington. She is a graduate of Coolidge High School, Class of 1955, where the ladies basketball team won state championship, which she was a member of the team.
She accepted Christ of an early age and became a member of Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church.
Bessie was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Roy Herring, Sr. and to that union one child, Roy Herring, Jr. was born. As a young adult, she decided to leave Georgia and move to Florida, where she lived in Miami for over 35 years. After retiring from a hotel on Miami Beach, she moved back to Merriville, GA, where she truly enjoyed and lived her life to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her only child, Roy Herring, five brothers, Lester, Willie B., Jimmy, Walter, Maurice and one sister, Susie Bevard.
Bessie leaves to cherish her memories, three grandchildren, Kizzie (Thomas) McGowan of Miami, FL, Leroy Herring of Moultrie, GA and Phillip Herring of Orlando, FL; sisters, Lois Robinson of Ft. White, FL, Willie Rene(Herbert) Herring; Pavo, GA; close sister-in law, Verna Arrington, Thomasville, GA; sister-in laws, Earnestine Arrington, Shirley Arrington; six great grandchildren, Devantae, Corey, Kymisha, Tynisha (Red and Black) Thomas, Jr., JaCorey; three great great grandchildren; god daughters, Wanda Blalock, Emma Smith; caring nieces, Rutina Davis, Callie Wright, Betty Collins; caring nephew, Marvin Arrington; caring cousins, Nina Jackson, Evelyn Cohen; close friends, Bill Knaff, Patty Knaff, Barbara Bevard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. When she passed, she had a special bond, whom she had a special bond with each one of you and loved dearly.
