Obituary

Bertha Lee Sumner was born January 24, 1935, to the late Mr. Samuel Sumner Sr. and Mrs. Curlie Daniels Sumner in Thomasville, GA. She was a long faithful member of St Luke CME Church from July 1946 until her passing. She was a Sunday school teacher. Bertha was a dedicated sister, aunt, grandmother and counselor. She has carried many titles in her life. She instilled her strong values and Christian beliefs. She was strong in her faith where she loved to hear and sing hymns. She was a pillar for so many that loved her.

Bertha graduated from Douglas High School in Class of 1953. After graduating, she was introduced to the Watt Family. She has been a staple in the family for over 73 years. She has assisted with raising many generations.

She was also the President of the District 6 Albany/Thomasville GA Missionary for 8 years.She was a member of the Ebenezer Elks Lodge 956 Thomasville, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Samuel Sumner, Sr. and Mrs. Curlie Daniels Sumner; brothers, Robert "Bob" Sumner, Frank Sumner, Clyde Sumner, Samuel "Ted" Sumner, Jr., Ulysses Baker, Sr., Walter Sumner; sisters, Dorothy Anderson, Lindell Sumner, Elizabeth Sumner; nieces and nephews, Terrence (Terry) Sumner, Mark A. Sumner and Tracey Williams.Bertha departed her life on March 27, 2026. She leaves to mourn one sister, Susie Sumner; sister in law, Gerry Sumner (Robert) and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family, Carol Sumner and Children, Mae Eva Williams(Eugene) and Children, Thomasville, GA.Alyce Sumner Tillman and Daughter, Ola Mae Lawson and Children, Tampa, FL, Greg Sumner (Henrietta) and daughter, St Petersburg, FL, Dexter Sumner (Denetta) and Children, Dorothy Jean Tigner (Greg) and daughter, Atlanta, GA, Deborah Jones and son, Tifton, GA, and Gary Sumner, Orlando, FL.

Bertha's extended family of those she has raised and nurtured: Dr. Phillip Watt (Alston) and Children, Mercer Watt and Children, Thomasville, Ga; Elizabeth Watt Finch (Sumner) and Children, Highpoint, NC; Sargent Major Johnny Higdon, Pastor Yvondria Wyche, Tynisha Williams, Monica Jenkins, Carolyn Simmons and Brenda Williams.
