Bennie L. Jordan, affectionately known as Buck, was born on Tuesday, November 1, 1938, in Norman Park to the late Amos Jordan and Essie Hunt Jordan. He spent his childhood years in Norman Park, Moultrie, Coolidge, and Pavo, living on various farms and plantations. He attended Union Hill School in Coolidge. In 1949, he moved to Thomasville with his mother and siblings. Buck accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, when it was located in Tochwotton.
Buck was a hard worker with a strong work ethic. He began working in the fields, then later on the farm. His first real paying job was at Kirby Evans which he received .75 cent an hr. He worked there from 1955 to the late 1960s. He then began working for the City of Thomasville with his brother Willie Frank. His employment continued with working at Southwestern State Hospital, which is where he worked for 30 years and retired. However, retirement wasn’t for him, so he got a job at MacTavish Furniture in Cairo Ga. Finally, after retiring a second time, he began to enjoy walks, and you could catch him walking up Jackson St to the “Dixie” store or Family Dollar or zooming down Jackson St looking straight ahead.
Buck was married to Laura Ruth and Lettie Mae before finding the love of his life, Gloria Patricia Hadley. They made a life together raising their three children, Mahalia, Robert, and Brian. They also raised three of their grandchildren, Destiny, DeAndre, and Ericka.
On Friday, January 16, 2026, after having a little talk with the Lord the night before and saying Lord, I’m ready, really ready. Take me when you want me, he transitioned from labor to reward.
He leaves a Devoted and Loving wife, Gloria Jordan; daughter, Mahalia Hadley-Jordan of Waycross, GA; sons, Robert (Diane) Hadley of Lusby, MD; Brian (Kelly) of Franklin, GA; Robert “Brucie” Bainer of Thomasville, GA; grandsons, Brandon (Tahlor) Brankston-Hadley; Bradford Hadley; DeAndre Hadley; granddaughters, Kenzlie Hadley; Ericka Hadley-Jordan; Destiny (Jasmine) James; Kyra Hadley; Mariah Hadley; Marisa Hadley; great-great grandson, Brendan Bankston-Hadley; Loving nieces and nephews, Mary Ruth, Katava, Kayla, Beatrice Sherrie, Tracy, Priscilla, Katrina, Sean Michael, Creig, Larry and Bear-Bear his dog.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Mike Jordan, Tony Jordan, Mattie Jordan-Cochran, Tereatha Tally, John Jordan, Willie Frank Jordan, Mary Frances Jordan-Wilson, Nathaniel Jordan, Eva Jordan, Charlie Jordan, Rosetta Jordan-Baker, and Josephine Simmons.
