Barbara Ann McIntyre Jackson, 70, passed away peacefully at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia, on June 13, 2021. Her husband of 48 years, Willie Lee Jackson, and her sisters, Catherine Willis (Hansell) and Jeanette Walker, were by her side at the time of her passing.
On July 8, 1950, Barbara was born to the late Roscoe and Annie Lee (Smith) McIntyre of Thomasville, GA. She was the eighth child of nine children and the youngest of five daughters born to her parents. As a child, Barbara enjoyed playing sports, engaging in outdoor activities, visiting and helping the elderly in the community, and spending time with her family.
Barbara graduated from Douglass High School in 1969. During her years at Douglass, Barbara played basketball and was a member of the yearbook club. Never one to limit herself to one dimension, Barbara held the honor of being Miss Annual during her senior year in high school.
After graduating from Douglass High School, Barbara continued her education at Walton Technical School, where she pursued and earned a degree in Licensed Practical Nursing. Following her graduation, Barbara enjoyed a lengthy career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. During her career, she had the privilege of using her nursing skills to care for patients at Camellia Gardens, Southwestern State Hospital, and private duty in residential homes in Thomas County, Georgia.
On August 5, 1972, Barbara became the wife of Mr. Willie Lee Jackson at St. Luke C.M.E Church, where she was a member for many years. On November 25, 1973, their union of two became a family of three following the birth of their daughter Subrenia Jackson, who preceded her in death.
In later years, Barbara and her family attended Cornerstone Church of Christ. Also, she sometimes worshiped at New Covenant Church of Thomasville, Georgia. Together, the family enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling. They especially enjoyed attending family reunions and sporting events. Barbara was especially fond of the Thomasville High Bulldogs, Georgia Bulldogs, and the San Francisco 49ers football teams.
Left behind to cherish Barbara's memories are her husband, Willie Lee Jackson; stepdaughter, Annie Ruth McMillan; sisters, Catherine Willis (Hansell) and Jeanette Walker; brother-in-law, Cleveland Jackson; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Summerville, Gwendolyn Jackson, and Beatrice Jackson; son-in-law, Melvin Mosley; great aunt, Mrs. Plummie Jackson; a special cousin, Mrs. Fannie Lois Everett; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, and her classmates of Douglass High School Class of 1969.
