Alma Jane Elzy Donald, 83, was born to Emmett W. Elzy and Beatrice Brown Elzy on December 22, 1938. Alma was the fifth of eight children born to this union. Her parents, two sisters, Vida Desmond Elzy Watson and Wilma Jean Elzy Taylor and one brother, Rudolph Elzy, Sr. preceded her in death. She accepted Christ at an early age and was active in various church activities growing up. She attended elementary school in Thomasville, Georgia and graduated from Douglas High School in 1956.
On July 6, 1957, she married her sweetheart, Leroy Donald, Jr. From this union, five children were born; one daughter Sherry Anita Donald, preceded her in death. Alma was a women of strength, tenacity, courage, and a proponent of all things education. Her deepest desire was to become a school teacher. However, marriage, homemaking, and rearing of her children was first and foremost, she emphasized the power of reading a good book by taking her children to the library each summer break. She made Sunday School imperative and cited the lessons from those books in discipline. She was retired from Thomas County Department of Family and Children Services and served as a missionary for many years in her church.
On May 10, 2022, Alma Jane Elzy Donald went home to be with the Lord. She will forever be remembered in her hometown of Thomasville. She touched the lives of many from ALL walks of life including friends, neighbors, and family. Her love for her hometown, music, and singing led her to pen a song called "The "Thomasville Song" which will forever remain in the hearts and memory of those who knew her well! Alma Jane Elzy Donald's legacy will live through her children, Gregory Donald (Jennifer), Katrina Donald, Leon Donald (Charlotte), Eric Donald; ten grandchildren, Eric Donald, Jr., Rhaelon Donald, Kayla Donald, Destiny Donald, Emmanuel Collins, Jahsiah Donald, Amanda Collins, Erica Donald, Leon "LJ" Donald, Jr., and Brianna Donald; three great-grandchildren, Nina, Taveres, and Delilah; one sister, Grace Maude Elzy Cooney, three brothers Edwin Elzy (Laverne), Lemuel Elzy, and Leo Elzy, Sr.; a very dear sister-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Brooks Elzy; six brothers-in-law, Billy Donald (Priscilla), Bobby Joe Donald, Minister Willie A. Donald, Willie Hope, Tyrone Donald, and Carl Donald; special cousin, Rev./Dr. Wessie Lee Spearman, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
